Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton Counties – I-285 Resurfacing

The joint venture of E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. and C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. was the successful bidder on the 10.25 miles of milling and resurfacing on I-285 / SR407 beginning at West Paces Ferry Road and extending to Ashford Dunwoody. The scope included removal and replacement of 6 to 8 inches of the existing asphalt pavement, removal and replacement of bridge approaches, and related guardrail replacement. Construction on the project is restricted to weekends and weeknights only due to the high volume of traffic along the corridor.
Approximately 284,233 tons have been placed to date by the joint venture during twelve weekends. Reconstruction of bridge approaches and bridge joints will continue through the winter as weather permits. The final riding surface consisting of 62,000 tons shall be placed in early spring of 2013. The completion date for the project is May 31, 2013 with an estimated value upon completion of $56,372,379.53 US dollars.
