One-Cent Sales Tax to Provide More Than $19 Billion for the State
including $8 Billion for Metro Atlanta/Gwinnett Region

July 31 vote is pivotal for road construction industry

(May 15, 2012) The fate of Georgia roads and transportation issues lies in the hands of voters on Tuesday, July 31. The ballot will ask each region for approval on a one-cent sales tax to invest in an already approved (and available) list of transportation improvements in each of the state’s 12 economic development regions.

“This really is a once in a lifetime type of event,” said Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson, who heads the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable executive committee. “What I really see this transportation investment act doing is helping our children and our grandchildren in the future,” he continued. “We'll be continuing to spend existing funds that come in, but this will give us a huge kick-start and do some catching up and put us in good shape for the future and quality of life.”

The T-SPLOST referendum was authorized by the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 which sought a means for Georgia to make the necessary investments into our transportation and highway systems. It is an opportunity for all Georgians to take control of their future by choosing to make significant investments in transportation projects that are vital both to the economy and quality of life throughout the state.

“This vote is critical for our road construction industry,” stated Robin J. Snell, president of E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. “With the recent economic downturn we have all been facing and the projected reduction in future Federal budgeting for transportation spending, we must find a way to fund improvement projects ourselves. We must be responsible for keeping our roads safe for our families to travel.”
