Sugarloaf Parkway in Gwinnett County has provided the travelers of Gwinnett County with a much needed artery for traffic across the county.  Our project will include the extension of this roadway from its current end at SR 20 near Grayson to just past New Hope Road.  Currently, E.R. Snell Contractor has performed almost all of the grading necessary to allow the final structure of roadway.  We installed  several drainage structures and are now completing the two bridges included in our project.  One bridge over New Hope Road includes a unique design provided by the County to avoid numerous traffic signals.  This design, usually referred as a ‘Griner Interchange’ or a ‘single point urban interchange’.  Any traffic exiting the mainline of Sugarloaf Parkway will be directed to a single traffic signal.  This signal will control all  four turning moves and opposing left turns operate to the left of each other.  Once our construction is finished – expected in late 2010 – we invite the travelers of Gwinnett to enjoy this unique situation.
Our Sugarloaf project also serves as a model project for recycling existing materials.  The excavations involved removing a large amount of rock found underground and our company decided to try to use this material in the final product.  We crushed this stone on site, sorted the various sizes and remixed the material to County specifications for use in the roadway structure.  Therefore saving the taxpayers of Gwinnett County any costs for new material.  The County plans to eventually tie in this roadway to SR 316 and our portion will help move this travel way forward.

Fall Line Freeway/Ivey, GA

We began construction of this project which is located just south of Milledgeville, GA in summer 2008.  Our project will include the construction of over 20,000 lf of pipe, 300,000 cy of dirt & rock,  200,000 tons of pavement stone and 140,000 tons of asphalt.  In addition, there are several box culverts and bridges necessary to allow construction of this 4 lane roadway.  E.R. Snell Contractor work forces are heavily working on each of these items to provide a valuable product for the citizens of Georgia.  This GA DOT project is over 8 miles long and will complete another section of the Fall Line Freeway which travels from one side to the state to the other.

Construction of one of the largest projects in our business history is ongoing in Hall County. This construction will include a combined length of over 10 miles of roadway along I-985 and State Route 53 near Oakwood, Georgia. The Georgia Department of Transportation is funding the job at over $ 100 million which will enable the expansion of the interchange across I-985 and the roadway leading towards the Atlanta Raceway.

This project involves several aspects of our company including grading, base, paving, drainage, culverts, bridges and walls. Work opportunities are provided in the construction of approximately 1,300,000 cubic yards of dirt, 70,000 feet of pipe, 800 cubic yards of concrete culverts, 300,000 tons of stone, and 250,000 tons of asphalt. In addition, we will perform over $ 6,700,000 in reinforcing wall construction and $ 7,200,000 in bridge work. Our company has enlisted the help of over 30 subcontractors and haulers to provide other items of construction as necessary.

Several traffic shifts are involved in the working of the project and our traffic control crews continue to provide management of this very busy roadway. Currently, we have several E.R. Snell crews on the project with concentrations in bridge, wall, grading and concrete paving. Our completion is expected at the end of 2008 and our crews have been working very closely with the GDOT to keep the project on schedule.
